Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for all buildings, grounds and energy management needs of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. FM works to provide a safe, reliable and welcoming campus in support of the University's mission of teaching, research and outreach. FM's responsibilities include over 25 millions square feet in more that 280 buildings across 1200 acres in the Twin Cities, and various support services for the Duluth, Morris, and Crookston campuses.
FM is divided into four main areas of service:

- District Custodial and Maintenance Operations - The largest portion of FM services are performed by the department’s five operational districts (East Bank, Health Sciences, HRA, St. Paul, and West Bank). These cross-functional teams are primarily responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of buildings in their geographical area, with additional support provided by Central Services and Energy Management. This business unit also provides research facility support services and the FM Call Center.
- Energy Management - Maintains the infrastructure and utilities necessary to heat, cool and light the Twin Cities campus, and leads campus energy conservation efforts to help reduce the University’s carbon footprint. This unit is also provides mechanical, electrical, civil and building automation engineering support for university-wide assets.
- Office of Sustainability - Provides direction and coordination for sustainability initiatives on the Twin Cities campus. The Office of Sustainability is a part of Facilities Management and collaborates with departments and units across campus to advance the environmental and social sustainability goals of the institution.
